dumper safety
Site dumpers are involved in around a third of construction transport accidents. Many of these accidents are caused because the driver’s field of vision is impaired by the load in the skip and they are less aware of the edges of excavations, slopes and fellow workers on site.
At Countesswells, W M Donald recently hosted the first demonstration in Scotland of an innovative approach to resolving this problem. The cab of the Wacker Neuson DV100 – DV stands for Dual View - allows for a 180˚ rotation of the operating and seat console. When loading the skip, the DV100 acts very much like a standard dumper, albeit with a raised driving position. However, when moving around site or on the public highway, the driver simply swivels his seat and is presented with an unobstructed view.
Swivel seats are relatively common on larger plant but, as far as we are aware, this is the first application of the technology in a small site dumper.

New offices set for completion in June 2019
Construction of W M Donald’s new office building is now well under way. Project architect, Alan Forbes, believes the structure will be wind and weathertight by the end of the year:
‘The contractor is currently working on the office’s roofs and the triple glazed windows are in manufacture and will arrive on site in the near future.
Part of the building is clad in natural sandstone. The sandstone has been quarried, cut, finished and shaped and is currently on the high seas. All other building elements with long lead times have been ordered and their delivery scheduled into the project plan.
We are aiming for completion of the new offices in June 2019. We have experienced some setbacks and delays due to weather, but the contractor has worked hard to make up for lost time.
The design of the building is bespoke to W M Donald’s needs and includes staff dining facilities, open plan offices, training room and boardroom. As well as providing a comfortable and productive environment in which to work, I believe the new building gives W M Donald the space and scope to further grow its business.’
