Ellon Park & Ride

W M Donald Ltd were contracted by Aberdeenshire Council through a competitive quality based tendering process to construct an extension to the Park and Ride at Ellon. The project was split into three distinct phases.

Phase 1 - 120m long contractor designed gabion retaining wall, car park extension and multiple utility diversions. The extended car park provided sufficient space for a temporary bus stop and turning area opened in October 2021, allowing the next phase to begin.

Phase 2 - Installation of a dedicated bus access road and turning area with three new bus stops, replacement bus shelters, real time information signage. This opened in December 2021 despite the challenging weather brought by Storm Arwen during the critical completion stage of the works.

Phase 3 - Final upgrades to the car park areas, including provision of new disabled parking bays with level access to the new bus stops, upgraded street lighting and CCTV and an automatic bollard system at the car park entrance to prevent unauthorised access.

It was a contractual requirement that the Park and Ride facility remained in full operation during the works. The key to successful project delivery was the close working relationship developed between our Site Team and the Project Manager for Aberdeenshire Council. Technical queries and day to day challenges were dealt with quickly and efficiently enabling the project to maintain progress and delivery on schedule with a minimum of disruption to public services.
