Trades Awards 2022
W M Donald is again sponsoring the Trades Awards 2022 which celebrates the achievements of businesses within the North of Scotland construction industry.
Ewan Riddoch, Managing Director, commented:
‘It’s important that we all continue to raise the profile of the construction industry in the region. Construction plays a huge part in people’s quality of life. We also need to make the sector attractive to new applicants to ensure we build the workforce of the future.’
As well as sponsoring the Awards, W M Donald is also submitting entries in five of the categories: Apprentice of the Year; Excellence in Health and Safety; Sustainability in Construction; Above and Beyond; Best Large Trades Business.
Mike Brodziak has been nominated for ‘Above and Beyond’. You can read more about Mike on P11.
Three apprentices have been put forward for ‘Apprentice of the Year’: Alex Walker, Lennon Mitchell and Marc O’Donnell.
According to Rachel O’Donnell, it was very difficult to choose who to nominate:
‘As anyone who has worked with our pool of apprentices this year will know, they are a really hardworking, committed and friendly bunch of lads. You could make a case of any one of them to be nominated, but in the end we whittled the list down to three.’
The winners are announced at the Awards Ceremony on Friday 28th October at Ardoe House Hotel.
Women in the W M Donald workplace
W M Donald is committed to increasing the proportion of women across all areas of its workforce.
In June alone, it welcomed three new engineering recruits:
Emily Colegrave
Technical Support Engineer
Emily proves it is never too late to change. Her initial work experience was primarily in bar management and finance, but she has now switched to construction.
Joanne Riddoch
Trainee Civil Engineer
Joanne starts her engineering degree at Inverness College in November. She is clearly not afraid of hard work having spent recent summers potato roguing.
Tammy Ferrier
Apprentice Engineer
Tammy will be spending a year on site learning the ropes before starting her engineering qualification. Tammy’s Dad (Raymond), Grandfather (Bill) and Uncle (Michael) all work for W M Donald.
